PUYALLUP, Wash. – Trey Starks has one final event on his sprint car calendar this year, and it comes at a facility he’s been very strong at over the years.
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver is heading to Concord, N.C., this weekend to race on Friday and Saturday during the World of Outlaws Last Call at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
It’s the season finale for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
“It’s going to be a tough weekend like always, but I’m excited,” he said. “I’d like to get back in the car and feel comfortable and be competitive. There will be a lot of good cars, but I think there’s an opportunity to run toward the top 10.”
Starks has been successful at the dirt oval throughout the last few seasons. He recorded a 360ci winged sprint car victory there in 2016 and he led laps during the 2017 World Finals, as well as set quick time during qualifying that year.
“I think it just suits me,” he said. “It’s a fast track that’s wide. There’s a lot of room to race and a lot of room to search around. It’s one of the tracks I enjoy getting back to. There’s certain things we do to the car and the way I drive it that seems to click for sure.”
Starks’ best World of Outlaws result at The Dirt Track at Charlotte was a 12th-place run in 2017.
It’s been a little more than a month since Starks has raced. His most recent outing with Gobrecht Motorsports yielded a third-place result on Sept. 26, which followed a charge from 21st to fourth during the Power Series Nationals on Sept. 19.
“It’s been awhile since we’ve ran, but the last couple of times we’ve ran I’ve felt confident in the race car,” he said. “We’ve made changes that are making us more consistent. I’m excited to get back to Charlotte. We didn’t have a good performance at World Finals last year, but Charlotte is a place we typically perform well at.”
