BELLEVILLE, Ill. – A fan favorite from Tahlequah, Okla., Ace McCarthy is looking to close up the points battle between himself and his old teammate, Jake Neuman, during Illinois Speed Weekend.

At the beginning of the 2019 season, Jim Neuman Racing added a new combatant in McCarthy to the team stable, and the results were solid, with a win, four top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

Looking back further, McCarthy picked up his first career POWRi West triumph in September of 2017 at I-30 Speedway in Arkansas, then followed that with another victory in April 2018 at Red Dirt Raceway in Oklahoma.

He took his first POWRi National League Victory on July 2018 at Valley Speedway, but McCarthy found plenty of speed with the Jim Neuman Racing team and ended off on a good note.

McCarthy joined Dave Mac Motorsports in the No. 28 midget at the beginning of 2020, traveling more regularly to gain speed and knowledge.

McCarthy has added two wins to his belt, which came back-to-back at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., and though the 2020 race season has been heavily altered due to COVID-19, he came out of the gate in full force.

Now, McCarthy has three top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 12 appearances with POWRi this season. He’s looking ahead to a three-day race weekend.

Sitting 240 points behind the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League point lead, McCarthy has a good chance to capitalize in Illinois and take over the championship lead.

This weekend the POWRi National Midget League will kick off a three-day race weekend at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill., on Friday, Aug. 21. Then, POWRi heads to Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., to battle on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League will finish Illinois Speed Weekend at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., on Sunday, Aug. 23.
