BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Rico Abreu is climbing back in a Keith Kunz-Curb Agajanian Motorsports midget this weekend as he attempts to claim his third-straight victory in POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League competition during the Ironman 55.
Abreu, a winner of 12 POWRi midget features in his career, will drive the No. 97 entry out of the potent KKM stable. Last year during the Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, Abreu became the second driver to win two times at the track in POWRi competition.
Brad Loyet is the only other driver to visit victory lane twice at I-55.
Abreu swept the weekend last year. In the first feature of the weekend Abreu started 14th, but roared his way to the front to win the feature. He repeated the feat on the second night, leading the field to the checkered flag to sweep the weekend.
The two-time Chili Bowl champion will make his first POWRi starts of the season when he travels to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on Aug. 7-8 for Ironman 55 weekend. His focus this season has been on winged 410 sprint cars, having garnered five victories so far this year.
Pit gates will open at 2 p.m. each night at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, with the grandstands opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps and qualifying are set for 6:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies and racing to follow.
