TULARE, Calif. – Rico Abreu took home a pretty penny for his sweep through the 26th annual Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup presented by Rudeen Racing.

If you want to be technical, he took home 2.6 million of them, to be exact.

Abreu banked $26,000 total for his performance over three days at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, which saw him win all three main events and take the coveted Trophy Cup points crown as well.

The St. Helena, Calif., native’s run left him atop the final Trophy Cup standings with 454 points, 15 more than that of eventual championship runner-up Shane Golobic.

Abreu’s 15-point margin over Golobic is one of the largest in Trophy Cup history.

The 24 cars that race the Saturday main event are automatically the top 24 in points and therefore are part of the point fund. Any ties are broken by the drivers’ qualifying time on their better of the two preliminary nights, and all 24 are guaranteed a $5,000 minimum.

For the 15 drivers that received the guaranteed $5,000 if they made the Saturday night main, a total of $28,550 was added to the the purse to meet that guarantee.

The total purse amount paid out for the three days was $195,565. The total will vary depending on how much is added to meet the $5000 guarantee.

To wrap up the event, Trophy Cup officials presented a check for $200,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and total donations collected over the event’s history have now reached the $2 million mark.
