TULSA, Okla. – Wednesday’s Circle City Raceway Qualifying Night at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals may have a new sponsor, but its entry list still features a longstanding list of top talent.
Five-time Chili Bowl champion Sammy Swindell is part of a loaded entry list for the third of five preliminary programs at the Super Bowl of Midget Racing, part of a 64-car field for the midway point of the week.
Swindell will wheel his familiar Swindell Motorsports with Mike Curb No. 1, unique square tail tank and all, as he pursues a record-extending sixth Golden Driller trophy in Tulsa.
He’s one of two past Chili Bowl champions racing the Wednesday preliminary, as two-time event winner Rico Abreu – who has won five of the last six Wednesday features at the Chili Bowl – steps into the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 97 once again.
NASCAR talent taking to Tulsa Expo Raceway Wednesday night includes two well-known Cup Series stars.
Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Newman will wheel a Clauson Marshall Racing entry, while defending Cup champion Chase Elliott drives for Paul May and DiaEdge Racing.
Former NTT IndyCar Series regular Santino Ferrucci, who is set for a part-time NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule, will drive one of two Dave Mac Motorsports cars in action Wednesday. Oklahoma University cheerleader Taylor Reimer will be Ferrucci’s teammate.
Iowa’s Brett Moffitt will represent the NASCAR Truck Series in a Bundy Built Motorsports entry Wednesday night, while Kevin Thomas Jr. and Emerson Axsom are among the USAC stars competing in the event.
Other Wednesday notables include POWRi champion Jake Neuman, World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet and WoO regular Parker Price-Miller, dirt late model ace Kaeden Cornell, and teenage sprint car sensation Gio Scelzi.
KKM Giveback Classic winner Brian Carber, who declined the KKM ride he won at North Carolina’s Millbridge Speedway only for crowdfunding to help him rent the car anyway, makes his Chili Bowl debut Wednesday night as well.
