LINCOLN, Ill. – Missouri young gun Sam Johnson raced to victory during a 20-lap open competition midget feature on Friday night at Lincoln Speedway.

After starting sixth, Johnson stormed to the front on lap seven, passing fellow teenager and polesitter Emerson Axsom for the top spot and never looking back from there.

Johnson led the rest of the way and beat Axsom, who paced the first six revolutions, to the finish line for the win. POWRi National Midget League point leader Jake Neuman was third.

Mitchell Davis and Kyle Simon crossed fourth and fifth, respectively. Landon Simon, Austin O’Dell, Jeff Beasley and John Heitzman completed the cars that made it to the finish.

Axsom and Neuman split the two qualifying heat races that took place earlier in the night.

Friday night marked Johnson’s second-career full midget victory. He previously won a USAC Midwest Regional Midget Series event at Illinois’ Wayne County Speedway in 2019.
