QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. – Joshua Shipley earned his first career series championship with the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Non-Wing Sprint Car Series this season.
Shipley raced with the series based in Arizona all season long and only finished outside of the top five three times. He led the series with three wins, 13 top fives and 14 top 10s to win the title by a whopping 341 points.
“It was a really great year,” he said. “We had pretty consistent runs all year long minus a couple of races. It felt good to always be in the hunt for the win.”
Shipley wrapped up his season recently at Arizona Speedway, which hosted the fourth annual Copper Classic. Shipley started seventh and finished third in his heat race before he capped Saturday night with a fifth-place run in the main event.
He followed with another top-five outing on Sunday to end the season in style.
“We started and finished third in our heat race,” he said. “That put us ninth in the A Main and we made it up to fourth. I really can’t complain with two top-five finishes to round off our year.”
Shipley gave credit to those who were there to help him along the way, which included his crew members and sponsors.
“My team was awesome throughout the whole year,” he said. “They put everything they have into this team every single weekend. They have some big hearts and I couldn’t have done it without them. I definitely can’t forget our sponsors. All of them were such a help to us this season and we appreciate them so much.”
